Window inside cultural relativism: Saudi Woman’s Rights

Saudi women: Pampered or oppressed?

While Al Youssef believes there is no appetite from either King Abdullah or society at large for greater women’s rights, Samar Fatany is convinced of the opposite.

The west may look at this with disdain, but this appears to be an example of cultural relativism. What the west calls repression, Saudi men call exultation of women. For the west, this seems incomprehensible and suspect. When the west subscribes to cultural relativism in many other areas of life, it begs the question “who are we to judge?” in this area. However if one subscribes to an objective standard for truth and ethics, the door is open to speak to issues such as these without hypocrisy.
